I grew up and lived in (until about 8 years ago) a small 'town' on the border of Wales and England called Hay-on-Wye.

it's only got a population of around 2,000 people (and 9 pubs) but it's fairly well known in the UK simply because it has so many 2nd hand book shops, in fact it has more bookshops per person (not inc. sheep) than any other town in the world (apparently).

it's also the host of a big literature fesitival every year that attracts over 100,000 people for the 7-10 days it's on, yup, that does make the town VERY busy, but it's pretty geared up for tourists anyway because of all the bookshops.

so why's my ex-wife going to kill me..?

simple, she works in one of the bookshops, and like most other people in Hay-on-wye who do, she's seen what electronic books and readers (i.e. the Kindle) are doing to the traditional bookshop business, basically they're killing it off, slowly but surely.

and guess what I've just bought myself...

yup, a Kindle!

I've been playing around with Kindle on my ipad and iphone for a little while, I like having so many books so easily available wherever I am, but I went the extra step and when she finds out she's not gonna be happy with me to say the least, as I've effectively 'gone to the dark side'!

so why is any of this of interest to you..?

This Kindle stuff is BIG!!!!

VERY VERY BIG!

and the important bit is that it's actually pretty easy to publish your own ebooks on Kindle and make a big chunk of extra dosh from the 426 million+ people who read these kind of books...
